It’s not over “till the fat lady sings”

Wakefield became the oldest pitcher in franchise history to win a game. He took the title away from the “Big Cheese” himself, Dennis Eckersley. Eck was 43 years and 349 days old when he won his last game, and Wake is 44 years and 38 days old today!!
Just to make the win that much better it was against Garza. Of all the pichers in Tampa he is the one I dislike the most. His spitting is gross. I can’t stand watching him.
Day off today while they travel to the West Coast, Oakland and Seattle, then back home.
The season is winding down. Doesn’t look like a Championship this year, but stranger things have happen. Beating Tampa 2 out of 3 games, what the he77, It’s not over yet!

I know why people don’t read the sports page
I think Gerry Callahan from the Boston Herald and Dan Shaughnessy from the Boston Globe, are the same person.
They both contine to write negatively about the Sox. They won’t give them a break no matter what is going on. Injuries, so what, the rest of the team makes a zillion dollars so we should still be in first place. So what’s the problem?
We still have 31 games to play, that means we are not out of it yet! How about some of that “Home Town Spirit”, if we beat the Yankees, and we beat TampaBaltimore………….well there is a hell of a good chance we will make the wild card. It’s not like we didn’t do it before (2004) when the writers ( see above) had us down and out.
Hopefully it all starts tonight against Baltimore.

Let’s try standing behind them and praying for the best! Who know’s stranger things have happen~

Say it isn’t so “Johnny Damon” coming back? Oh no!
“the abuse he received at Fenway the last few years may be playing a role in his decision.”
I hope that’s true, that he is so thin skinned he won’t want to come back. He was great in his time, and helped us win a World Series, but that was then, this is now.
Johnny left for the evil empire, I don’t think we need or really want him back. (besides I think my granddaughter finally got rid of his tee shirt)
The last three games have really been pretty exciting.
51/2 games out, It’s not over yet.

Welcome home
6-0 Red Sox is a great way to start the home stand. Great way to welcome Dustin back.
Now we just have to keep up the momentum.
Rookie swats 1st Grand Slam. “RYAN!”
Back in the dugout Ryan admitted he had never hit a grand slam before. Congratulations Ryan, keep up the good work.
Every year we seem to bring someone up from the minors that stands out, this year it’s
Ryan Kalish!

Mike’s doing good.
I don’t want the team to have to sacrifice anyone just so Mike can have a starting spot in the lineup, but if the Baseball Gods see fit to injure someone and Mike is the man to fill in, I guess we will just have to deal with that ; )
Mike seems to be dealing just fine.

I love this picture. Also what it was for, Mike hitting the game winning home run against Toronto last night!
You know being 5 games out of first place isn’t the worse thing that can happen to us, it’s only the second week in August, we still have 48 games until the regular season is over. If these guys keep their game on who knows what could happen.
Admittidly this has been a pretty crazy season. With all the injuries it’s amazing we are only 5 games out. But with the guys slowly coming back from there injuries and Mike playing ball like he is, Well who knows?

Mikie on First…..Sweet
Tuesday nights game against Cleveland was one of the best games I’ve see all season.
Mike Lowell playing first base for Youk was great, and then Beckett getting mad! Wow, I don’t like fighting, but for Beckett to get that mad, and Francona to go billistic like he did, and no one got hurt. It just pumped up the game.
All that luster was lost last night. Crabcakes looking hot and bothered.
One more tonight with Cleveland, come on guys get it together.

Beat him, don’t break him
I have been a fan of Dan Harens for a long time, I wished for him to be traded to Boston, but as we all know that didn’t happen.
Okay so he is with the Angels. We kicked a** last night. But Youk hit a ball right back at Haren and they had to take him out of the game. I didn’t want him to beat us, but don’t beat him up his first game with the Angels!

Buchholz allowed one run on five hits, walked one and struck out seven in seven often-dominant innings. At one point, he retired 11 straight Angels batters, six by strikeout.
Welcome back Clay!
Two more west coast games and then back home for a couple of weeks. At least we’re staying on the east coast for a while. I hate baseball on the west coast.

Maybe a trip to West Coast is what Dice K needed
Good game last night, Dice K pitching like the old Dice K!

thanks to Matsuzaka, the Red Sox remained only 3 1/2 games behind.
Funny thing with all the injuries my 9 year old Granddaughter knows more RedSox players and positions than I do.
A reporter for the Sunday Herald Ray Borges did a full page on Mike Lowell and him sitting around the dugout just waiting to be traded. I know it’s probably true, but I hated the way the story read. Kind of like kicking the dog when he’s down. I love Mike, but enough, I wish they would decide what they are going to do and do it.
This is probably the first year since I started watching baseball that I don’t have a favorite player. Of course there’s always Wakefield, but he’s getting old, and I think Tito expects too much from him.

Kerry for Youk
It was very nice of Senator Kerry to take time out of his busy day to ask the voters of Massachusetts to stop for a second and vote for Kevin Youklis.
On the other hand the way people have been getting injured, maybe it’s not such a good idea. Kevin had a little ankle cramp last night, he should be back tonight. We really don’t want anything worse to happen to him.

Nick Swisher is asking all the celebrities(sp) to push a vote for him.
Also up for consideration for the final spot are Michael Young (Texas), Paul Konerko (Chicago White Sox) and Delmon Young (Minnesota) . Voting ends on Thursday. So if you want to keep Kevin home and safe, and don’t want Swisher to make it, there are other options. My personal favorite is Delmon Young.
Stay healthy Kevin, there is at least 3 more months of Baseball to play.
