May 2008

Welcome Back to the East Coast

The sox are in Baltimore for the weekend.  And they are not alone. There's a group I know of Red Sox fans there for the weekend also.  Hopefully to give the Sox and Manny some luck.Photo: SEATTLE - MAY 28: Manny Ramirez #24 of the Boston Red Sox smiles while stretching prior to their game against the Seattle Mariners on May 28, 2008 at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington. (Photo by Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images)Manny does not appear to worried about getting #500.  Manny being Manny, I'm sure he is confident it will come sooner or later.  I would love to see it happen this weekend while the gang of SGers are getting together.

The Herald says the best chance of Manny hitting it this weekend is pretty good on Saturday.  Manny it seems hits the most home runs on Saturday afternoon games in the 4th inning.  (who puts these stats together)?

Have a good time RedsoxChick! : )

Where's the backup?

Tim Wakefield pitched one of the best games he has pitched this season, 1 run, 5 hits, 0 walks, in 8 innings, and still lost.  Why?  You really can't blame him. It appears the West Coast has the best of us right now.  We had better start working on what ever the heck the problem is.

Red Sox starter Tim Wakefield throws...

I did write a blog yesterday, but I guess my computer didn't like it.  I think it ate the blog. It appears to be gone.  It was to much effort to redo.  Not really a great blog, just a few pictures of Mike Lowell. and a quick "Woo Hoo" to Manny! 499, heres hoping he gets number 500 at Tomorrow or Saturdays game, when a certain "Red Sox Chick" and some friends will be at the games in Baltimore.

Glad there is no game tonight, I think they need the rest.

I Hate Road Trips

I know we won yesterday, but what about the rest of this road trip : (

And I really hate the game times.

Anyone that knows me knows I'm not a huge fan of Jon Lester, but my heart goes out to him and his family.  I have a similar circumstance going on in my family. (father and son being diagnosed with the same cancer)  It's very difficult to understand. My prayers are with the family

Boston Red Sox' Jon Lester works against the Oakland Athletics during the first inning of a baseball game Sunday, May 25, 2008, in Oakland, Calif.

Nice long weekend. On Friday we put flags on the Veterans graves in the local cemetery, and Saturday we march with my Granddaughters Brownie Troup.  (my legs are still hurting)

Didn't see much baseball this weekend, just Saturday, but the way the games went I guess it was better I didn't watch.  I know this is a long road trip but I wish they were at least on the east coast.

7 Game Home Sweep!

Is that a beautiful picture! Grand Slam!

It was pretty sloppy playing after that though.  It's a good thing Mike and JD both hit Grand Slams or we would have lost the game.

Dice K got his 8th win.  But he didn't look so great.  The guys definetly won this one! There were smiles all around, but none bigger than Mike Lowell's after the Red Sox third baseman drilled a grand slam in the sixth inning, giving Boston a commanding lead in an eventual 11-8 victory.

JD never seems to get enough credit. How many teams would like to have this foursum on their team?

What is with the red shoes on Manny? Maybe he should change to the black NIke's until he get's those two home runs.  I would like to see him get them just to take some of the pressure off him.  He is now wearing a mouth guard to stop clenching his jaw when he is up at bat. Sounds like too much stress.

The Boys are on the road again.  Late night baseball, I hate it.(the late night that is)Red Sox right fielder J.D. Drew accepts congratulatory high fives from teammates Mike Lowell, Kevin Youkilis, and Manny Ramirez after Drew hit a grand slam during the second inning.

Sox Pitching Staff looking good!!

This has been a great week to watch baseball! At least for a Boston Red Sox fan.

Last night it is Bartolo Colon's turn.  Looks like he may fill the gap at least until Schilling comes back.

(phBoston Red Sox starter Bartolo Colon delivers to Kansas City Royals in the first inning of a MLB baseball game at Fenway Park in Boston, Wednesday, May 21, 2008. Colon made a solid return to the majors after recovering from an elbow injury, allowing two runs in five innings, posting his first win since last June as the Red Sox beat the Royals 6-3. oto from yahoo.com)

Dice K tonight and hopefully Manny can get at least one of those home runs he needs!

Picture of Mike, just because.

pv's going out to Sen. Kennedy, being from Massachusetts the Kennedys have always been an important part of our life.  Sen. Kennedy has done amazing things for Women's rights, Elderly and Massachusetts.  We would all be the worse without him to fight for us.

Sorry about getting political, I try not to , but His illiness has really affected me.

Justin "Looking Good!"

It couldn't have been easy pitching last night after Jon Lester's "No,No".  Especially if you're a kid looking for a spot on the rotation.  But he did great!

6 and 2/3 innings.  Not bad.  I think Justin Masterson will be back!Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Justin Masterson, foreground, comes out of the baseball game in the seventh inning game against the Kansas City Royals, as catcher Jason Varitek, left, and manager Terry Francona stand on the mound, Tuesday, May 20, 2008, in Boston. Just had to add a picture of Mike smiling.  I started reading his book last night.  I'm liking it!

Jon we hardly know you!

Congratulations Jon!

You now have a no hitter under your belt, and you know how to smile! Who would have guessed that?

We have been watching Jon since he started, we have a bit of a personal interest in him. And the one thing that bothered me about him was his lack of Smiling! All  of the Red Sox Smile.  They are a happy bunch of guys, but not Jon.  Always on the defense.  Sitting alone in the dugout, not talking, and definetly not smiling.  Well last night all that changed and all it took was a no hitter.  Lets hope he keeps it up.  The smiles and the no hitters!

'He's not just a good kid because he threw a no-hitter,' Terry Francona said. 'He's a good kid because he's a good kid.'

And how about Tek? Catching 4 no hitters! (breaking a record) And hitting a home run to help Jon win the game.BOSTON - MAY 19: Jason Varitek #33 of the Boston Red Sox is congratulated by teammate J.D. The whole team looked great!

Papi's Out of his Slump!

Papi has found his groove again. (2 home runs) Great games this weekend, and check out those gloves.

Those are his lucky black and red gloves.  When he was in his slump he was wearing black and white gloves.  I tried to tell him, but he wouldn't listen.  Well really I told everyone else, but someone should have told him.David Ortiz (34) celebrated hitting a solo home run with teammate Julio Lugo (23) in the third inning.

Great Baseball this weekend, even with the rainout Friday night.  The Red Sox had a sweep, and so did the Mets against the yankees.  Does it get any better than that?

A certain Red Sox Chick was at the game with a bunch of friends Friday (rainout) and two games Saturday.  I know they had a good time, they always do.

Mike also had a real good weekend!  (photo's from Yahoo.com)

My nephews Mark and Nicholas were at yesterdays game, hope you guys had a ball.

We got to watch most of yesterday's game, then had to leave to go see my granddaughters dance recital.  She looked beautiful and did great! Good Job Maddi!

With the Trophies

My daugher Camille called me and asked if I wanted to go to the store with her and my grandaughter Madison.  To my surprise it was a liquor store and they were featuring the Trophies!

Sox are back home tonight!  Let's hope the weather holds out long enough for them to play the game, I know a chick and a few friends who are going to the game. Dice K is pitching ; ) and Gabe Kapler will be there, sounds like the making of a really good game!

Noni

When did he start pitching?

If Gagne pitched this good when he was in Boston he would still be here.  He also looks like he has gotten himself in pretty good shape.  It appears he just didn't want to be on a "World Series" Team. (I have to pick on someone today)

Some of the team (as seen below) are just playing their hearts out, while some others, like most of the pitching staff just aren't holding their own.

Home this weekend, hopefully that changes things!

Kudo's to the "Boston Celtics" They are one game closer to the Championship.  When I went to sleep last night they were losing, I woke to a pleasent surprise.  They Won!

And the good news is---

Manny hit #498 last night.  The way he has been hitting he may hit the big 500 at home in Fenway Park this weekend.  I know some people with tickets that are really looking forward to that.

Manny hits No. 498 as Sox lose

Now the bad news, well first of all the Sox lost again last night.  I didn't stay up to see the entire game.  That's probably a good thing. And the Red Sox have designated Julian Tavarez for assignment. I am well aware that Julian was not the best pitcher we have seen play for the sox, but he has one of the best hearts.  He loves the game and just wants to play.  He is also a good teammate and I think he will be missed.  Best of everything to you Julian, and I pray someone picks you up.  If not, PawSox isn't so bad.

Coco

I am really getting to hate these Sunday night games.  What the He77, Sunday was always Baseball in the afternoon and then supper.  Now the games start at 8:00p.m. who's dumb idea was that?   I have to get up very early in the morning and I hate starting to watch a game and having to walk away and go to bed.  Worse than that is waking up to a loss!

Coco has been doing really well, and I very happy about that.  He happens to be one of my favorite players.  It is very rare you will see him argue a call, or throw something in the dugout. He also has a smile that just makes me want to smile.Boston Red Sox' Coco Crisp hits a solo home run in the seventh inning of a baseball game against the Minnesota Twins Saturday, May 10, 2008 in Minneapolis. Thanks to Redsoxchick for the Mothers Day shoutout on her blog yesterday, I should have written something, but once again I am fighting a cold and feel miserable.  Hopefully it will be short lived.

3 Out of 4 ain't bad!

You won't see too many pictures of Youk on my blog, Don't know why, just never one of my favorites, but that might just change. 5 homeruns in 5 games.  This guy is on fire.  One of the problems I have with him is that he is "kind of grouchy".  He expects to get a hit every at bat, and if he doesn't he goes back to the dugout and swears, throws things, pretty much acts like a kid in a little league game. He has to get over that.  Coco use to act like that, but I haven't seen too much anger from him this season.  Maybe it's the pressure of being engaged?

With two on and two out in the ninth inning, Youkilis delivered his 15th RBI of the year on a single up the middle that Toronto center fielder Vernon Wells couldn't quite handle.(photo from boston.com)

1,000 strikeouts! Woo Hoo, doesn't get much better than this!

Good Try

I missed the last inning of the game and when I got up this morning my husband greeted me with " Papelbon blew it in the ninth"! Well after reading this mornings papers I see where he didn't do that by himself. But, enough of that, It's raining in Boston and depressing enough. I figure I just need a few pictures of my favorite guys to cheer me up. Besides it was just one game, and everyone has to have a bad game once in a while.

The Old Guy did it again!

Wakefield pitches in(photo from boston.com)

I love it when they call Wake the "Old Guy".  He is younger than my oldest daughter and that means he's young enought to be my son.

Old, Ha! 8 innings last night. And who finished off the game? Mike Timlin, the other old guy. Pretty good for the two oldest pitchers on the team.  Maybe it's something in the Fenway air?

Despite a bit of a drought, Manny Ramirez is inching closer to his 500th career homer. As he sits just three homers shy of the milestone after hitting No. 497 against the Tigers on Tuesday, we take a look at his career, his climb up the homer charts, and review each of his milestone dingers.

497 and counting!! I would love to see him get 500 at home, but on the road is okay!Sox third baseman Mike Lowell tosses...(photo of Mike from herald.com)

What's a day without a picture of Mike!

Mike is Back

I haven't opened many papers in the past week and a half, so it was real nice to open todays Globe and the featured picture was of Mike and Manny after Mike hit his first home run.

He's back!  (3 for 5 in last nights game)

Mike Lowell and Manny Ramirez

I am still dragging from my last two weeks.  Hopefully I will catch up on some much needed sleep and be back to normal soon.  Haven't been able to watch many games. Maybe by the weekend.

THANK GOD I'M HOME AGAIN!

No offense to anyone in the Sunshine State, but if I never see Florida again, it will be too soon!

I hate Florida, I spent every summer of my childhood at Daytona Beach. Never liked it then, really don't like it now.

I'm back in boston, where the weather is unpredictible, the people helpfull and friendly and the Baseball great!

I haven't watched a game in over a week, but I think I am getting back in the groove. The Red Sox returned Mike Lowell to the starting lineup Tuesday. The third baseman did not get a hit in three at bats.(photo of Mike from the Boston Globe.

Thanks to "redsoxchick" for filling in while I was away.
