I'm not a football fan, but....

Great Superbowl Game!

We have a little tradition in my family, Superbowl Sunday is a Special day.  We set a theme and I cook enough food to feed the family plus anyone who happens to stop by. Yesterday it was Southern Fried Chicken and Pulled Pork.  Of course being Sunday I had to make a Pasta dish, so it was Spinich Ravoli's with an Alfredo Sauce.  Salad and 3 or 4 Appitizers.  Then the Game.  It's the only game I watch all season, regardless of who is playing, and of course I have plenty of squares.  I didn't make any money, but boy did I enjoy the game.  I wanted the Saints to win, and they did. But they also made it interesting. The game really moved, never dragged.  The result, well everyone knows by now. The Saints won the Superbowl.

I find it sad that Nomar is going to retire.  I loved watching him play for the Red sox and was really sad when Theo traded him.  Seeing him back for a game in Boston last year was really great, and I loved the reacation of the fans.  So did he!

The Globe's Dan Shaughnessy describes Nomar's first at bat in an opposing uniform at Fenway Park: on July 6, 2009 Last night Garciaparra came back to Fenway for the first time in five years. He was showered with even more love, just as he was for his entire Red Sox career. When he stepped into the box to face John Smoltz at 7:27, you would have thought Bill Russell and Bobby Orr had been introduced. The standing ovation was long and loud.

Only 4 more days until Truck Day! Spring Training is almost here!

Tim should always have a spot with the Sox

Wakefield will have a job... perhaps out of the 'pen, but as we know, 'Wake is the only player in baseball who will go where is needed and not make a fuss. (This is a comment left to me on my blog yesterday, I love Tim, I hope he continues playing, but if it is a coaching job, so be it, the Sox should not let go of such a valuable asset)

It's easy to label Tim Wakefield somewhat delusional for believing he should have a spot in the Red Sox' crowded starting rotation( Eric Wilber, Boston.com)

After the way Tim pitched last year, why is it delusional to believe he has a spot the the rotation? I think Dice K should watch out. If he can't step up and take command, Tim could slip right in.

I have known some players and read and watched an awful lot and Tim Wakefield is probably one of the best.  I don't mean the way he pitches, which I have no problem with, I love a good knuckleballer, I mean in the sort of person he is.  You don't see him trying to sway votes on election day, just because he is a Red Sox Pitcher he does not have the ego that says " People have to listen to me, because I know what I'm saying".

I am praying he does so well at Spring Training they have to give him a spot.

I know it appears I am on a rant today, well maybe I am, I don't like reading negative things about one of my favorite players.

I have received some really nice comments on my blog this past week from people other than Red Sox fans.  As a person who loves baseball, and really likes a lot of different teams, please leave me your email address when you leave a comment, sometimes I want to reply and can't.

More Spring Trianing

I just really liked this picture of Theo

NO WORRIES: Sox GM Theo Epstein is...

There is an awful lot of talk about our 6 starting pitchers.  Do we need 6? Who isn't going to be in the rotation?  Well according to Theo, it's not a problem.  He is quite pleased.

According to Theo, at this point, two spots on the 25-man roster could be a focus of competition come spring training. I personally am a big fan of Tim Wakefield.  I know, old guy on the team.  But that dosen't mean he can't pitch.  And after last year who knows about Dice K?

Theo also said Mike Lowell should be ready to play come March.  Again I can just pray he has a job at third base.

I have a friend who is going to Fort Myers for a month with her daughter and a few weeks with her husband.  I haven't wanted to go to Spring Training in years, I am a little jealous this year.

It's been a long winter.

Spring Training just can't get here soon enough

Josh Beckett's contract with the Red Sox is not up until next winter when he will be a free agent.  So why is it that the Herald is writing about it now? Could we give the guy a break and let him play the season before all the bull starts.

I realize there is little to talk about. 11 days until truck day! The count down is on for all baseball nuts who find the Winter too long (this blogger included) with football, hockey and basketball.  We need Baseball!

But in the mean time, leave Josh alone.  Give him some space. Save it until next winter when you will once again be needing something to write about.Josh Beckett(photo from the Boston Herald)

15 days till Truck Day!(but who's counting)

Not much to write about, really boring time of year for Baseball!

Just of few pictures of some guys I really miss alot!David Ortiz The rumor is that when David Ortiz joined the Red Sox for the first time in 2003 he called everyone 'Papi,' since he didn't know anyone's name. In return, everyone else would call him 'The Big Papi.' This was eventually turned into 'Big Papi' and has stuck with Ortiz ever since.Tim WakefieldJonathan Papelbon

Waiting for truck day!

Not much baseball news, but thought a few nice pictures of past players would be nice.

Brian Daubach

Brian Daubach The former first baseman retired after spending 2006 with St. Louis's Triple A club, but his best years were in Boston. The popular Daubach averaged approximately 20 homers and 75 RBIs in four years with the Sox (1999-2002). He returned to Boston for the 2004 season, though he was no longer on the team when the Sox won the World Series.Dauber is now the manager of the American Defenders of New Hampshire in the Can-Am League. The Defenders are run by former Red Sox GM Dan Duquette.

Nomar Garciaparra 3B/SS, Free agent 2009 statistics: Avg. HRs RBIs Runs SLG .281 3 16 17 .388 The 1997 Rookie of the Year provided Red Sox fans with some of their best memories in the time after The Rocket and before The Curse was broken, winning back to back batting titles in 1999 and 2000. Injuries robbed him of some of his effectiveness, but he was the National League Comeback Player of the Year in 2006 with the Dodgers. He signed with the A's, where he joined fellow Sox alum Orlando Cabrera, who replaced him as Boston's shortstop in 2004, and spent some time on the disabled list early last season. On July 6, Garciaparra returned to Boston for the first time as a visiting player.

Gabe Kapler

Gabe Kapler OF, Tampa Bay Rays 2009 statistics: Avg. HRs RBIs Runs SLG .239 8 32 26 .439 One of the more popular Sox during his three seasons in Boston, Kapler spent time in Japan after the 2004 season, then re-signed with the Sox midway through '05. He retired and managed the Sox' Class A affiliate in Greenville, N.C. in 2007 before returning to the majors with Milwaukee last year. He signed a one-year deal with Tampa Bay in January of 2009 and added on an additional year to the contract in October.

Just a few pictures from the past of players I enjoyed watching play.

21 day til Truck Day!!

Fisk has something to say

Of McGwire's claim that the steroids merely helped him recover more quickly from injuries, Fisk said, "Try having your knees operated on and catching for 30 years. Do you think you feel good when you go out there? [McGwire] had to stand around and play first base. So excuuuuuse me.''  Fisk is pretty funny ; )

Carlton Fisk -Swinging(photo from google)

He also commented on Roger "The Rocket", leaving Boston and going to play for Toronto, and then winning 2 Cy Young Awards. Oh yeah, to quote Fisk, "pass the bucket".

Carlton Fisk is a Hall of Famer, and if either of these other guys, Mc Gwire or Clemen get into the Hall, it would be a Slap in the Face to players like Carlton who played without Enhancing Drugs, and still made it. ( some comments from Associated Press).

23 days until Truck Day!!

Don't think he's smiling today

Maybe it's just that it's grey and cold out. I found this picture (thank you Kelly O Conner) and it made me very sad.  Election was yesterday and the State of Massachusetts put a Republician in Teddy's seat. Well we can just hope that after two years and not too much damage the State will smarten up.

I just don't know if I can afford to wait two years.

The Sox signed Jonathan Paplebon yesterday. That's a good thing!

Hodgepodge 2010

Sox signed Oki to a one year deal, let's hope he has a better year than last.

Papelbon is willing to take his chances with an arbitrator, and the Red Sox don't appear to be in any rush to sign him to a long-term extension. Jonathan is still young, I don't think he is the kind of pitcher you let get away.

Of course the Sox never seem to do anything the easy way.

Jonathan Papelbon.

I love this picture of Paplebon, it so depicts his personality!Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon (photo's from Boston Herald)

There is plenty of time to do it right, Arbritration hearings are not held until the first two weeks in February.

MIKE LOWELL PICTURES - Red Sox

I have to keep posting pictures of Mike Lowell while he is still with the team.

24 days until Truck Day! 30 days until Pitchers and Catchers report! It's almost Spring!

I try to blog at least 4 days a week, sometimes that's not possible. In December I seem to have a bit more time and posted quite a bit.  I was hoping to make Marks top 50 for the month of December, but he didn't post a December list, just a list for the year. Oh well, maybe next month.
